“Thinking inside the box II”

Spraypaint and Augmented Reality on multiplex board
LUAF / Lübeck, Germany / 2023
Recent mural for @luafestival 🚩 This was a tough one to design & paint, with a very unusual architecture, some extruded windows, lightposts and even a large metal sculpture already mounted to the wall a few decades ago. Additionally, the boardwalk was rather narrow, aslope and a lot of traffic pushed through the busy intersection during daytime. And of course 2 days of heavy storm😄
I made about ten drafts that remained unused until I figured out an arrangement that worked for the space (and for me) and am particularly happy, that everything went as planned in the end. 🙏🏼
Artist in Residency / Colab Gallery / Germany / 2023
“Since 2006, the Colab Gallery has been working exclusively with style-defining, international artists from the field of graffiti and urban art. In the recurring rhythm of two group exhibitions per year, over 200 artists have since accepted the invitation to Weil am Rhein. This year, Colab Gallery will add a new element to its exhibition format and has created a residency program for artists.
The aim of this program is to offer selected artists the opportunity to work without distraction and without economic risk. For this purpose we provide a spacious room in the Colab Gallery and a well-rehearsed team. For 14 days in February this space will be studio, workshop and laboratory at the same time. A safe place where the artist can focus on his or her own artistic quality and ability. In this way we can make it possible for our visitors to experience what would otherwise remain inaccessible to the public during the preparation of the exhibition.”

Graff mods I / Bond Truluv
Around 2019 I started to experiment with the various aspects of the spraycan as a tool and found particular joy to craft a variety of modifications, devices and contraptions involving spraypaint and it´s characteristics.

“The current aesthetic of my work plays with classical as well as digital motifs alike, aiming to build free chains of associations without becoming too concrete. Resembling the transience of a dream, I try to invite the viewers to embark on an abstract journey through their own subconsciousness, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, the analog and the digital world.”
Compiling this new body of work started as a journey aiming on the arrangement of fragmented lettering alongside objects that would create a maximum of depth in dimension, leading on towards a certain display of the dichotomy of the digital age and its analog counterpoints.
Architectural elements are found alongside anamorphic illusions, meeting elements from trompe l´oeil as well as graphically fragmented letters and typography, rooting to the strong Graffiti background of the artist. Reflective materials play a vital role in the surreal arrangements, where physics often seem to be disabled by default.
The architectural illusion of depth is underlined by the additional Augmented Reality (AR) layer of each piece that the viewers can experience through a customized app on their smartphones. This interactive element adds a special dimension to the shown work, revealing hidden layers of animations, sounds and movement that invite the viewer to actively engage with the piece in order to discover its true ghost in the shell.

Meta Graff / Future paint series
2022
In these performative short videos, I explore visual ideas of new forms of CGI supported abstract painting. Using tools like 3d software and augmented reality assets in an increasingly digital world seems to be a logical step for me as an artist, accessing new aesthetics and blurring the lines between reality and computer generated overlays further thus creating surreal moments.

Feel like a lemming sometimes?

Finding balance in this fast paced, complex and increasingly fragmented world sometimes seems like an impossible task. Given the fact that any construction is meant to collapse at some point, modern life and it’s urge to innovate sometimes seem absurd up to a point beyond absurdity.
And even though, things seem rather deranged and often enough unquestionably incomprehensible, usually at one point there is one striking factor that evens out the confusion: the sheer beauty of sensual existence.
Urbanmorphogenesis / Solnechnodolsk, Russia / 2021
Futur 2
18 x 12m
Painted for and by the Urbanmorphogenesis Team in Solnechnodolsk in 2021.
The piece takes strong reference to the increasing displacement of concrete realities of life into the virtual space through a broad spectrum of technical tools. My current motif imagery plays with classical as well as digital motifs alike and builds free chains of associations without becoming too concrete. Resembling the transience of a dream, I try to invite the viewers to embark on an abstract journey through their own subconscious, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. The architectural illusion of depth is underlined by the additional Augmented Reality (AR) layer that the viewers can experience through the customized Artivive app on their smartphones.

Architek
AR mural
This building came with a lot of windows. Naturally these can be disturbing for a coherent design and therefore I tried to incorporate the indentations as good as possible, aiming at creating an illusion in which you couldn’t tell the painted objects from real ones. On top we built and shaped a few wooden panels to underline this approach. And of course an augmentedreality layer.
Make Art Not War
Its not often you get to paint an unusual object like this:) Peace.
