Lately I have been experimenting with augmented and mixed reality application development and finally I am figuring a few things out about it. Thanks to a few youtube tutorials I got the transparent shadow plane working after quite a few tries.Now I just wish, other people besides me could actually have the same experience, watching those pieces. But since the app is custom written in Unity I will not be able to put it out through the official app store.This is how it works btw (there was a discussion on reddit a few days ago and various ideas rambling about):After painting on the wall directly, I created some 3D models to match the piece with Unity 3d. With this software and the Vuforia package I built an AR app that runs on my android phone, matching the 3d models on the reference image of the wall.

Mixed Media inside object frame

This typographic sculpture – made mostly of Kapa board- uses an infinite mirror effect to create the ultimate depth illusion. The LED lights that are mounted on the inside can be controlled through a remote control (included in the package) and are powered through a battery pack that can be refilled with three regular AA batteries on the back of the frame. On full power the set of batteries last between 2 and 6 hours (depending on the quality of the batteries. When the LED´s are switched off, the frame reflects merely the inside of the room (just like a blue-ish mirror) and one can hardly see the inside of the frame. Comes with a remote control to switch on and off and change through different light modes.

I was honored to be joining this years mural art and graffiti festival Wallskar, close to Nanxian in China. An extraordinary event set amidst a peaceful village outside of the city of Nanxian, where virtually all houses are to be painted. Since there are a lot of them, I strapped my gloves and mask on and painted 6 pieces in the 9 days I was there. Definetely a fav in painting scenarios ever.
